When Sue and I saw the Metro goes au Naturel fabrics at the June Trade show last year, we knew there was a great quilt for the making. This border fabric cried out for fussy cutting.
Coming from a family with four brothers and having two sons myself I know that there may be millions of patterns for girls but not that many for guys. I think Sue has done a stunning job in redressing the balance with this quilt.
The checkerboard border and the needleturn fleurs-de-lis give a tutor feel to the quilt. It has a subtle pallete of creams, greys and blacks, with a hint of maroon and purple.
The stars are English paper pieced from the border print above to give the striking pattern centre.
Sue has named it Wellington - following on from her Waterloo quilt made from the first fabrics release of French General.
I think this quilt would make a beautiful wedding or birthday present. We have it available as a pattern and a kit.

I would make this quilt for my brother-in-law. He is going though a hard time at the moment and I think he would really enjoy this quilt.... I know he would LOVE the colours.

Well this is a lovely pattern. I would make it for my son who has just got into Uni. Nothing like a quilt to snuggle under while you are studying. Happy days.
For my dad, who would be so chuffed with this. The quilt would make a good ice breaker for him makeing friends. Life has been difficult since mum passed away, and he has since moved into a retirement village.
